Surrendering Process

The Marion Area Humane Society is a very small, rural shelter. As a shelter, we accept owner surrendered cats and dogs, and stray cats from Marion County. MAHS only accepts surrenders as space allows. If you have an owned or stray cat to surrender, please call 740-389-6548 to make arrangements. If you have an owned dog to surrender, please complete the form below to be added to our surrender waiting list. MAHS does not euthanize our pets for time or space, so we cannot provide an accurate timeline of how long it will take for kennel space to become available.

If you have found a stray dog or have concerns about animal abandonment, neglect, or cruelty, please contact the Marion County Dog Pound at 740-386-6150.

In order to surrender an owned pet, you must be 18 years of age or older, and you must be the legal owner, or have legal rights to surrender the pet. MAHS requires photo ID and a $20 surrender fee for all owner surrenders; there is no required surrender fee for stray cats.

If you have lost or found a pet, please click the link below to utilize the Petco Love Lost platform.
