Adoption Process

The Marion Area Humane Society is an adoption agency which places displaced and homeless animals from the Marion Community into new, adoptive homes. MAHS only accepts owner surrenders from Marion County. Once an animal is surrendered, it is updated on vaccinations, appropriate testing, dewormed, and given appropriate flea, tick, and heart worm preventatives. Once the animal is vetted, it is placed on our adoption floor and ready to find their new forever family!

MAHS requires all family members including children to do a meet and greet with the pet that you are interested in. If you are interested in a dog, all other dogs in the home are required to come to our shelter for a meet and greet prior to adoption. We do not provide same day adoptions; adoption processing times can be 1-3 business days. MAHS requires a $25, non-refundable, application fee, which will go towards your overall adoption fee, if your application is approved.
